Project Case Study: Soundproof Window Installation – Supporting Office Areas, Generator Room Guangdong–Hong Kong Water Supply Co., Ltd.

Project Overview

On November 1, 2017, our company successfully completed the installation of soundproof windows in the office support areas adjacent to the hydraulic generator room at Guangdong–Hong Kong Water Supply Co., Ltd. The project covered the first‑floor control room, as well as the second‑ and third‑floor offices that were most affected by operational noise.

The Client

Guangdong–Hong Kong Water Supply Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of Guangdong Holdings Group, a provincial state‑owned enterprise, and a leading Sino‑foreign cooperative venture in the water industry. The company operates the Dongshen Water Supply Project, which is vital to ensuring reliable water delivery to Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Guided by its core values of “Political Water, Economic Water, Life Water,” the organization has earned widespread recognition for its commitment to water security.

The Challenge

The generator room houses large turbines that emit persistent medium‑ and low‑frequency noise during normal operation. This type of noise is particularly challenging because it penetrates walls and travels long distances, causing continuous disturbance to staff in adjacent offices and control rooms.

Our on‑site measurements confirmed the severity of the issue:

  • 1.5 meters from the generator: ~82 dB(A)

  • First‑floor control room (door closed): ~71 dB(A)

  • Second‑floor corridor: ~73 dB(A)

  • Third‑floor corridor: ~70 dB(A)

These levels far exceeded the comfort threshold for a productive office environment and posed a clear risk to employee concentration and well‑being.

Our Solution

To tackle the low‑ and medium‑frequency noise, we developed a tailored soundproof window system specifically engineered for this environment. The design incorporated:

  • Laminated glass constructions optimized for low‑frequency attenuation

  • High‑seal frame profiles to eliminate air gaps and vibration transmission

  • Custom mounting to match the building’s structural conditions

Our certified installation team carried out the work with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations.

Results

Post‑installation testing yielded dramatic improvements. Noise levels in all affected office areas were consistently reduced to approximately 35 dB(A) — a reduction of over 35 decibels from the original corridor readings and well below typical office noise guidelines. Staff now enjoy a quiet, focused workspace, significantly enhancing both comfort and productivity.
